Background Information: Mr Bawa qualified from the Ahmadu Bello University teaching Hospital in Zaria, Nigeria. He then underwent surgical training as accredited by the West African College of Surgeons and the Nigerian Postgraduate Medical College.

He then had further surgical training in the Northern Region of England prior to taking up the post of Consultant Laparoscopic and Upper GI Surgeon with the Northumbria NHS Trust in 1999.
