Gallbladder surgery and gallstones

Cholecystectomy or surgical removal of the gallbladder is usually performed to treat gallstones that are causing symptoms. The operation is usually a straightforward laparoscopic (keyhole) procedure. Patients will often leave the hospital on the same day as surgery.
